Today I did something that I do as often as I can; I walked into a Half Price Books store with an open mind and some cash in my pocket. I enjoy this store for the simple reason that everything you buy used has so much character and has stories attached to it that belong to another person that you’ll never know but should never go without acknowledging. I’ve recently gotten pretty far from the music era that made me fall in love with music in general and had a notion to pick up some of these “classics” as I like to call them. I happened across “Santi” and “Ocean Avenue” but The Academy Is… and Yellowcard, respectively. These two acts were both forerunners of the early to mid early-2000’s Alternative scene and I can’t tell you how much I’ve fangirled to both at various Warped Tour dates. Loading them on to my iTunes today has truly been exciting and I’ve since listened to them both in full and cannot explain my level of contentment. Then in thought of this entire situation, it really is moving how something as simple as a 10 year old record can bring back memories and feelings and an overall comforting feeling. I’ll probably have these tunes on repeat for the next month or so, quietly reminiscing to myself on my daily commutes to a job that would embarrass the me I was when I was discovering this music. It’s truly been a good afternoon, and I can just feel a My Chemical Romance marathon coming on shortly, or maybe another drunken night of singing the discography of Taking Back Sunday.
